The Kentucky Derby – by Joe!

6 May
Don’t have any real strong opinions about the race other than the pace might be soft. Not even strong against anyone…You can save some time by going to  and read anything from James Scully’s Blog as my opinions mirror his on several races…I like Lewis Bay (#3) a lot in Friday’s Oaks with a small play on Royal Obsession (#8)…Don’t forget you can play a daily double from the Oaks to the Derby…Overall, the California horses appear better than the others as a group…Which prep will we look back on as the key race?…Maybe the Arkansas Derby…Certainly not the Wood Memorial…Everyone agrees Outwork has trained the beat at Churchill but his trainer Todd Pletcher has one win from 43 starters in the race…And Outwork’s last was a victory in the afore mentioned Wood…Where he won a photo from a horse who has yet to win a race…The Tampa Bay Derby has been a key race and it’s winner, Destin, appears here. Long layoff, jock abandons. And another from Pletcher. Enough for me to toss…Mor Spirit (#17) comes out of California, has never been worse than 2nd on a fast track, has a Hall of Fame jockey in Gary Stevens, trained by Hall of Famer Bob Buffett, and has trained well this week. He’ll go off about 12-1 and that will be our selection…
